Wish That YOU ALL Could Have Been There. The Maitland River starting at Ben Miller Lodge and travelling west to Highway 21 is a fantastic paddling experience and on Saturday April 30, 2005. Mike Kovach of London and Elaine Flook of Chatham met Maureen and I in London and we met up with Jeff Totten, Rick Federley, Jannah Mitchell, Steve Higgins, and Richard Palmer all from the Windsor area at Ben Miller Lodge. The nine of us paddled for four hours on this wild and scenic waterway. Maureen and I have never paddled anywhere that there were so many sets of rapids so close together. We just completed one set and within ten minutes we were upon another so the trip never gets boring. We made many stops to shoot photos of our new friends playing in the waves and the photos are below. We came across five other paddlers while on this journey, three of them also from Windsor and the other two were from the Kincardine area. While setting up our equipment Jeff, who had paddled here before told us of a four foot waterfall coming up that we should keep to right side of and unfortunately Maureen did not see it in time and went right over the centre section of the falls and on landing her kayak skirt blew open and let in about 10 gallons of water but Maureen stayed upright and came out laughing. Other than Maureen and I the other seven paddlers all had short play boats and they gave us a great demonstration of how the seven foot kayaks could be handled in the waves and on the open water. It was really great meeting our new friends from Windsor and Kincardine and we surely enjoyed the trip with them.
