Hang Gliding Stories from Wallaby Ranch Pilots:
We spent about three weeks at Wallaby Ranch this year in February and had many great flights and enjoyed meeting many old friends and some new ones. My best flight at Wallaby this year was one starting at 3 pm one day and I followed Mike Barber as best I could as he sped south past Hwy 4 at cloudbase but once I got past Hwy 4, I decided to come back to Wallaby and I floated around there at cloudbase which was 5360 feet. On another day I got high with Mick Cotts and Gibbo (4,000 feet) and followed them as they set out on what turned out to be a one hundred and twenty miler but as usual, I chickened out and sped back to the Ranch. I feel like such a wimp. On another of my flights a large (7 foot wingspan) bird flew within 20 feet of my wingtip and thermaled with me for about ten seconds and I was in awe. In the three weeks I had 24 flights and many were great thermaling flights so I had a blast. Our other activities were varied like windsurfing, bike riding and boating. What a great way to enjoy winter.
