The Skydog Report

Wallaby Ranch

Friday February 25 rd 2022 and here we go again. Tommy and Rick get airborne first and I get in line about 5th. Wow, towing showed no lift but suddenly at 1,800 feet Bang Bobby McFee puts me into a good one and we swirl up to 2,500 feet and I release. This was the big one and I keep turning up to 4,000 feet where the clouds were too close. I played for a while in this beauty and then go searching but with no luck and land with a 43 minute flight. The stories later in the day are splendid with flights of 4 hours and Tommy did 80 miles. Wow, what a day. We are homeward Bound Sunday morning and Biking Saturday so that it for me this time. Hope to get back with Oded in March/ April. See Y'all then.

Wednesday February 23rd 2022 and after a week of going to the beach, biking and joining my Ukulele friends in Dunedin on the west coast of Florida we are back at Wallaby and today was great. I flew for 2 hours and 27 minutes up to 4,860 feet ATO. Mitch Keebler and Tim Thompson from Lookout Mt. joined us today. Mitch and Tim completed their goal of flying to Paradise Air Sports ( formally Quest Air). Congrats guys. Rick Bremer and Tyson Richmond had four hour flights landing at sunset and Tommy Nejame flew to Bok Tower and back for a 42 mile flight. Really nice day with very light winds.

Saturday February 12th 2022 and we are taking off by the Oak tree and I am last to launch at 2:50 pm. We had a nice bike ride earlier. Tim puts me into a great thermal and I take it up to 4,800 feet ato. There are more than twenty pilots all over the sky and I cruise north of the Ranch for twenty minutes getting up to five grand. I notice four other pilots flying east past Hyw. 27 maybe close to The Omni Center so I cruise over there and thermal up to them easily. Lots of lift and I top out at 6,256 feet ATO. Smooth lift today. I later talked to Brian and he mentioned that he headed toward the cloverleaf and got up to 7 grand and flew to the hospital and back with lots of lift everywhere. My flight time was 1 hour and 16 minutes of pure delight.

Friday February 11th 2022, and we line up at the soccer field around 2pm. Tommy Nejame and Rick Mullen get off first and then Bob McFee tows me up into a nice thermal but I finally loose it and land after 21 minutes. I get in line and go again and this time Tim puts me into a great thermal and I take it up to 4,600 feet. The thermals were rough at first but later on they smoothed out some. Lots of pilots flying today. I flew north for three miles and came back over the warehouses finally getting up to 5,141 feet ato. My flight time was 2 hours and 30 minutes. What a great day to be in the air.

The Skydog Report

Wallaby Ranch

Thursday February 10th, 2022

Here we go with a good stretch of weather starting today. There were about ten of us launching at 2 pm and I'm off third behind Tommy NeJame. A bit sketchy at first but later the thermals really kicked in I got up to 4,691 feet ATO for 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Wednesday February 9th, 2022

With another blue sky day we decide to try it again and only Oded and I are on line. I get airborne first and don't find any lift so a 16 minute flight and Oded logs 20 minutes. Tomorrow looks like a possible good day so we are excited for Thursday.

Monday February 7th, 2022

With a blue sky and winds around 8 mph we decided to give it a try. Well, Bob McFee towed me up and at 1,700 feet I was uncomfortable with the Rasty (Rough and Nasty) air and pinned off at 1,700 feet and stumbled around in rough air finding bits of lift but I couldn't stay in anything so I had a 17 minute flight. OK so I will try again and this time things smoothed out but I didn't find any lift so another 17 minute flight. Ode had one twenty minute flight and all good landings. There were five other fliers all sledding out.

Monday January 31, 2022

Oded and Maureen and I along with our friends Eric and Mary from near London, Canada Arrived at Wallaby Ranch Sunday evening. With a decent flying forecast we got up Monday morning and set up our gliders. by 2 pm we were in a line up of about ten pilots and I was second off after Rick Mullins. I was a rowdy tow and I kicked off at 1,700 feet and found decent trashy lift and after about twenty minutes I was up to 5 grand watching as the others became airborne. Finally Oded got into the air and worked his way up and we flew together over the warehouses and east of Hyw. 27 eventually getting to 5,400 feet. It was great fun twirling together in the lift which smoothed out somewhat. Earlier in my flight I topped out at 5,860 feet ATO and my total flight time was 1 hour and 24 minutes. Sounds like a bit to windy for the next few days so off to the beach.

January 19th 2022
Oded Flew for 2.45 hours 4500 ato. What a nice day. Tommy went Quest and back. Rick Mullins in his carbon dragon flew to Quest and  rick Bremer had 4 hours to land last. I took off late was fixing my VR . It flew good. You should have been here...
The Ranch is full . Pilots galore lots of tandems and needed two tugs to get everyone up.
January 21st, 2022
Overcast . Oded had a high tow and worked low thermals to milk it for 58 minutes. That was it today.
